Meaning
and purpose

Raw brown sugar is cane sugar that keeps a portion of its natural molasses film, giving it an amber to brown color and a distinctive aroma. It is commonly traded as VHP, or very high polarization, raw sugar. The specifications shown here are representative of the grade; final values and shipment terms are confirmed with our trade team.

01

What the grade means

Raw cane sugar is typically quoted with a polarization of 99.0 degrees minimum and a color range in the hundreds to low thousands of ICUMSA units, well above refined white sugar. Moisture and sediment limits are agreed alongside color and polarization.

02

Where it is used

Raw sugar is supplied to refineries for further processing and to industrial users who want the color and aroma that molasses contributes, including bakery, sauce, and specialty food production.

03

Packaging and delivery

Raw sugar moves in bulk vessel shipments as well as bagged formats such as 50 kg bags and one metric ton jumbo bags. Inspection, documentation, and delivery terms are settled before loading.
